Ways to Give
For nearly 50 years, Meritan has been providing much needed
assistance to those in need. Most of our services are primarily
focused toward seniors, but we also help the blind and visually
impaired, children in need of specialized foster care, the developmentally
disabled, career and job training assistance, and a variety of
in-home care services.
Many of Meritan’s programs rely on private donations and
grants from friends like you who believe in helping us continue
providing these very important services. We very much appreciate
your interest in supporting Meritan.

GIFTS OF CASH - Simply complete the donation
form and mail with your check or credit
card information (including the expiration date and the name
as it is written on your card) to:

GIFT OF STOCK/ASSETS - Donating a gift of stock,
bonds, and mutual funds can be a significant way to help those
in need, and receive a tax benefit at the same time. You can
even donate the interest on a CD, IRA, charitable trust or money
market. Donating is easy, and in most cases you may avoid capital
gains taxes.
Simply contact your financial advisor. He or she will need the
following information so that the shares, interest, etc. may
be wired to Meritan/Senior Services’s account at the following

Please let us know if your gift has a specific designation.
In many cases, you will receive a greater tax benefits by wiring
your shares to our account, rather than selling them and sending
the proceeds to Meritan. Please contact your tax advisor for

Other Appreciable Assets - There
are other types of appreciable assets including, real estate,
artwork, coins, and intellectual property. Meritan is pleased
to consider any and all gifts.

TRIBUTE - You have the opportunity to make a
gift to Meritan in memory or in honor of a loved one, friend
or a special occasion. It is not only a thoughtful tribute, but
will help care for those in need.
When you make a memorial or a gift in honor of a loved one,
a special card will be mailed promptly to the bereaved family
or the person being honored, informing them of your gift.

Holiday Greeting Cards – during the holidays each year,
Meritan offers you the opportunity to honor someone special.
Meritan will be pleased to send one or more cards to your friends,
employees, or customers, telling them of your gift in their honor.

LEGACY - A legacy gift can be provided through
a will or living trust. Each person can specify in their will
a portion or all of your assets to go to Meritan, and your arrangements
may be changed at any time should your situation change for some
reason. Legacy gifts can be designated to a specific use, including
our endowment fund.
If you include Meritan in your estate plans, please let us know
so that we may recognize your generosity.
As always, Meritan continues to encourage contacting your attorney
or tax advisor on all matters relating to your estate. If you
would like to leave a simple bequest of a percentage or remainder
of your estate, we have provide a couple of examples that may
be used.
SAMPLE BEQUESTS
Bequest of Residue: (EXAMPLE: “I hereby leave all (or
________%) of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate,
whether real or personal, to Meritan, located at 4700 Poplar
Avenue, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38117 for its general purposes
and directives as determined by the current policies of Meritan.
Specific Bequest: (EXAMPLE: “I hereby leave Meritan, 4700
Poplar Avenue, Suite 100, Memphis, TN 38117 the sum of $______________
for general purposes and directives as determined by the current
policies of Meritan.
UNITED WAY
Meritan is a United Way agency but you can still
give to Meritan via your United Way gift each year through the
Donor Designation Program. Please keep this in mind if your employer
participates in the annual campaign.
MATCHING GIFTS
Many employers sponsor matching gift programs and will match
any charitable contributions made by their employees. If your
company is eligible, request a matching gift form from your employer,
and send it completed and signed with your gift. We will do the
rest. The impact of your gift to Meritan may be doubled or possibly
tripled! Some companies match gifts made by retirees and/or spouses.
