MERITAN: 60 YEARS OF SERVICE

Meritan, Inc., the Mid-South’s leading non-profit provider of healthcare and social services for people in need, is celebrating its 60th anniversary. Founded in 1961 as a small agency to serve the unmet needs of senior citizens in Memphis, Meritan has grown into a multi-service organization offering an array of programs for homebound seniors, children living in foster care, victims of elder abuse, and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, as well as senior employment opportunities.

April is National Volunteer Month!

This week, April 18-24, is National Volunteer Week in Canada and the United States, and we wanted to take a moment to thank all of our amazing volunteers for writing letters to our homebound seniors receiving in-home personal care. Your volunteerism means the world not only to the seniors that we serve but also to Meritan. We could not do what we do without all of our amazing volunteers. We wanted to highlight our Volunteer of the Month, Courtney Spencer.

The planning process is underway, but the exact date is still to be determined. Meritan AR, along with approximately a dozen other Treatment Foster Care agencies comprise the Arkansas chapter.

Congratulations to Jeanette Barbee-Cowans for being recognized as an Above & Beyond recipient! Meritan’s Above & Beyond award is presented to staff who have gone above and beyond their job duties at Meritan. Jeanette was nominated for her tireless efforts in assisting with this year's Silver Bells program, organizing the gifts, coordinating shipping, and helping ensure that the process went smoothly. Jeanette also does a stellar job of keeping staff in Memphis safe and COVID-19 protocol compliant.

Meritan Vaccinates Homebound People in West Tennessee.

On March 16, 2021, Meritan began its homebound COVID-19 vaccinations program thanks to a grant from the Tennessee Association for Home Care. The Tennessee Association for Home Care (TAHC) received a grant from the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability (TCAD) to vaccinate homebound people in the TCAD programs that include home-delivered meals, OPTIONS, and the Family Caregiver Program.
