Each year, more than 23,000 young people age out of the U.S. foster care system. According to the National Foster Youth Institute, 20% will experience homelessness shortly after, only half will find steady employment by age 18, and fewer than 3% will earn a college degree.
Meritan’s Supervised Independent Living (SIL) program is designed to change that.
Our SIL program offers teenage girls aging out of foster care a safe, stable living environment where they can focus on building their futures—without the immediate pressure of paying for rent and utilities.
This program supports young women as they transition into adulthood by providing:
A secure, fully furnished residence
Life skills training (budgeting, financial literacy, meal planning, home management)
Guidance in navigating adult responsibilities
Encouragement and support from dedicated Meritan staff
Participants must be employed and/or enrolled in a post-secondary education program, helping them stay on track toward self-sufficiency and long-term success.
At Meritan, we believe every young woman deserves the opportunity to thrive—independently and with confidence.
