How long does the process take to become a licensed foster home?

  • The average time to become a licensed foster parent is 90 days. This includes background checks, home studies and training. While this may seem like an extended period, we want to ensure the best placement for both the foster family and children.

What is therapeutic foster care?

  • Therapeutic foster care focuses on children with behavior and/or medical diagnosis. The children may experience medical challenges and/or emotional trauma such as depression, ADHD, autism, or physical impairments.

Is there financial assistance?

  • Yes! Foster parents receive a bi-weekly board payment.

Do I have to be married?

  • No! Foster parents can be single, married, or living with a partner.

How old do I have to be to become a Foster Parent?

  • Be at least 25 years old

How long must I have lived in TN before I can become a Foster Parent?

  • You must be a Tennessee resident for at least 6 months.
