Meet Mr. Willie

Meet Mr. Willie. Mr. Willie is one of our In-Home Personal Care clients!

Meet Mr. Willie. Mr. Willie is one of our In-Home Personal Care clients!

Meet one of our Meritan’s Silver Bell seniors, Willie. He asked for white t-shirts, socks, underwear, and a comforter. He said that his comforter was completely washed out, and the wish list items he requested were an absolute necessity. When we asked him what he would like to say to Meritan’s Silver Bells’ donors, he said, "It is not about how much you give, it’s what you give. I appreciate the donors out there who truly care. It’s great to have someone thinking about you during the holiday to brighten your holiday season.”

Willie also wanted to thank his caregiver, Mrs. Shaw. “She goes above and beyond. She stands up for her clients and truly cares for me. She calls me to remind of my doctor’s appointments and to take my medicine,” he stated. Mrs. Shaw has been his caregiver for over 8 years. He also expressed, “Not only is she my caregiver, but she is also my friend.” Willie has three children, none living in the city of Memphis. The majority of our seniors live alone, so it’s important for the community to come together to make sure that our seniors are not forgotten each holiday season.  Everyone deserves holiday cheer, and we are happy that our corporate partners and community support Meritan’s clients. Willie has been a part of the Silver Bells program for 9 years. He has loved his gifts and Meritan’s Homemaker program!

Providing Willie with homemaker services and giving him a memorable Christmas holiday is how Meritan helps to fulfill his basic needs. Meritan's Silver Bells Program was a success this past holiday season. We were able to give holiday cheer to 635 seniors! Thank you to our volunteers, supporters, and sponsors. We could not do what we do without you!

We want to especially say thank you to our corporate and non-profit partners: First Horizon, Yuletide Office Solutions, the Women's Exchange, Home Centric, Acuff and Associates, Medtronic, Methodist North, Downtown Memphis Rotary Club, Qsource, Youth Programs, Inc., and to everyone who supports Meritan's Silver Bells Program.
