Meet Shirley, Meritan's Silver Bell Spotlight
Meet one of our Meritan’s Silver Bell seniors, Shirley. This year, she asked for diabetic socks, a blouse, and a scarf for her Silver Bells gifts. Every year, she waits until Christmas Day to open up her gifts.
When we asked her what she would like to say to Meritan’s Silver Bells’ donors, she said, “Please tell them that I say thank you!”
Shirley also wanted to thank her caregiver, Mrs. Smith. She described her caregiver as wonderful, marvelous, and happy. She goes above and beyond for Shirley. “She goes to the store for me,” she stated. Mrs. Smith has been her caregiver since 1997. She also expressed, “We get along great, and we lift each other up. She is my best friend and is like my family.”
Shirley has two children, and only one of her children lives with her to help take care of her. The majority of our seniors live alone, so it’s important for the community to come together to make sure that our seniors are not forgotten this holiday season. Everyone deserves holiday cheer, and we are happy that our corporate partners and community support Meritan’s clients.
Shirley has been a part of the Silver Bells program for 13 years. When we asked her, “What was your favorite gift that you received from Meritan’s Silver Bell Program?” She responded, “My favorite gift given is a white lace blouse that I received that Christmas.” She has loved her gifts and Meritan’s Homemaker program!
Providing Shirley with homemaker services and giving her a memorable Christmas holiday is how Meritan fulfills her basic needs. We can’t do this without you! Please help provide Shirley and others with their needs by making a donation today!
