On Thursday morning, February 6, 2020, Big League Movers sent out two employees, Tanner and Brontavious, to perform a pro bono move for one of Meritan’s clients. The Meritan client is an elderly man who receives wrap-around care coordination from Meritan as a part of the United Way of the Mid-South’s Driving the Dream program. The client needed assistance moving his things out of his storage unit and into his apartment in Memphis. He was paying $150 per month to utilize that storage unit and needed the money to support his family.

The Driving the Dream program aims to help move families out of poverty and towards their dreams by connecting them with all of the different services they might need. Driving the Dream’s Care Coordination Hubs, like Meritan, provide clients with those connections. When Chessie Biggam, the Director of Development at Meritan, heard that there was a client who needed help moving, she contacted Big League Movers to see if they could help.

Shannon Calhoun, the Sales Account Manager at Big League Movers, said, “Big League Movers would be more than happy to help with this effort.” Big League Movers donated their services to help move the client. As proud community members, Big League Movers seeks to improve the quality of life for the people in the communities they serve through pro-bono moving services, volunteer engagement, and charitable donations

After the move, the client said, “I am so thankful for Meritan and Big League Movers. I would have had to pay around $1,800 a year for that storage unit. That weight is now lifted off of my shoulders. Thank you to everyone who helped me.”
