Linzie Madkins became part of the Family Model Residential Program in 2017. After returning home from yet another hospitalization March 2021, Linzie took time to explain how the program (particularly his caregiver, Mr. Edward Evans) have allowed him to continue to live a meaningful and full life despite all challenges in addition to sharing how one accident changed his life forever. Meet Scott Walkup, Meritan's Board Member

Meet our Board Member, Scott Walkup. He works for the Memphis and Shelby County Division of Planning & Development as the Administrator for the Shelby County Department of Housing. The Department provides critical affordable housing resources including down payment assistance loans, lead-based paint hazard reduction services and housing rehabilitation, financing for affordable housing development and support for large scale community initiatives like Resilient Shelby. Congratulations to Jeanette Barbee-Cowans for being recognized as an Above & Beyond recipient! Meritan’s Above & Beyond award is presented to staff who have gone above and beyond their job duties at Meritan. Jeanette was nominated for her tireless efforts in assisting with this year's Silver Bells program, organizing the gifts, coordinating shipping, and helping ensure that the process went smoothly. Jeanette also does a stellar job of keeping staff in Memphis safe and COVID-19 protocol compliant.

Meritan receives a $5,000.00 grant from the Union Pacific Community Ties Giving Program for our Older Workers Program.

Meritan is excited to announce we were awarded a grant of $5,000.00 from the Union Pacific Community Ties Giving Program for our Older Workers Program. The Older Workers program is an employment skills, placement, retention skills, and community service opportunity for low-income older adults. Job seekers in the Older Worker program have experienced barriers to entering or reentering the workforce. The program seeks to help them overcome those barriers and ready themselves to find unsubsidized full-time employment through training and a paid part-time position at a local non-profit or government agency. All participants are at least 55 and over and live in a household with income no more than 125 percent of the federal poverty level.
