Congratulations Jeanette on receiving the Above and Beyond Award!

Congratulations to Jeanette Barbee-Cowans for being recognized as an Above & Beyond recipient! Meritan’s Above & Beyond award is presented to staff who have gone above and beyond their job duties at Meritan. Jeanette was nominated for her tireless efforts in assisting with this year's Silver Bells program, organizing the gifts, coordinating shipping, and helping ensure that the process went smoothly. Jeanette also does a stellar job of keeping staff in Memphis safe and COVID-19 protocol compliant.

Jeanette Barbee has been with the agency for 23 1/2 years. Her job title is Office Coordinator, but around Meritan, she is known as “the Enforcer." Jeanette stated, “The reason I love Meritan is that it has taught me to believe in myself. I'm braver than I thought, more talented than I knew, and capable of more than you can imagine. It’s awesome to be able to be a part of every program that we have!”

Staff can nominate each other for this award. The staff member that nominated Jeanette said this, “ I would like to nominate Jeanette Barbee for the "Above and Beyond" award. Jeanette has gone above and beyond for Meritan's Silver Bells program. She has worked with the development and homemaker team to help organize all of the gifts delivered and shipped for our senior clients. This year for Silver Bells, we had to make adjustments and offer shipping as an option for our donors, and Jeanette stepped up to the plate watching all of the deliveries come in. When a donor arrives to drop off a gift, she goes to the door and helps with the delivery of those gifts too. She is a Meritan hero, and she makes sure that we are all safe stepping into this building too!”
